Weekend Wrap Up

Sheesh, where did the weekend go? And why is it that doing nothing causes me to want to nap incessantly?

FRIDAY: I woke up sleepy but perked up REAL fast at the realization that I would be headed to the beach with my bestest as soon as I was packed and caffeinated. I threw some snacks and waters in a beach bag and hit the road. We spent ALLL DAY at the beach, enjoying the sun and waves and even listened to a quirky rendition of "Brown Eyed Girl" while eating lunch on the sand. It was a phenomenal day and I have a sunburn to prove it. (ouch) I left the beach sun kissed and sleepy. I got home in time to shower and get ready for sushi and fro yo with PT and ended the night with a movie.

SATURDAY: I made french toast and PT and I headed for Starbucks. After our coffees we headed to his parents house to lay by the pool (I layered 50 spf all over my body). After an entire day at the beach, I wasn't braving the sun any longer so I spent most of the day popping in and out of the house and reading a book. After we showered we went out to a steak house with PT's parents. My favorite part was the bread they gave us. I'm a carbaholic. After dinner we hung out at his parent's house a little longer and then headed back to the Bettelli residence just in time to watch a TLC special on Nick Lachey's wedding (Yes, I purposely sat down to watch this and yes, I found it insanely interesting).

SUNDAY: We woke up and went to church. Afterward we went out to lunch and got back just in time to nap during the thunderstorm. The rest of the evening includes playing Chutes and Ladders with my nephew and watching the Bachelorette: Men Tell All (you guys will soon realize I am not at all kidding about this reality TV addiction).

Weekend Rating: Short &Sweet

Thursday Throwbacks

There are some things from my childhood that I absolutely cannot give up. Naps, Lip Smackers, Fruit Roll-Ups, and popsicles are a few of them. But there are other things that I've been thinking about and can't believe I've let slip out of my life and be replaced by healthy, serious, more "adult" things. Today, I wanna take it back, way back... to the good ol' days.

Check em out:

This combo of oldies but goodies would make for the perfect afternoon.

Ultimate Planning

I'm kind of obsessed with making lists. Although I usually feel some sort of uneasiness when I am unable to check off everything on my "To Do" lists. Nonetheless I love listing things- my schedule for the day, groceries, packing lists, things I "need" lists, things I love lists, movies I want to see, meals for the week... you get the idea. Lists make me feel organized, although I'm really not. One of my favorite things ever (nerd alert) is getting a brand new day planner and filling it in with multicolored pens and markers for all of my upcoming dates and list making and then thumbing  through it proud of my detailed organization. It makes my whole wild & crazy life feel a little more under control. And then of course I end up going back through and having to scratch out, rearrange, draw arrows and ultimately destroy my perfectly color coordinated planner that made me feel so sane. I believe that it is fun to feel organized and in control, but it is always calming to know that when I have arrows and strikethroughs and scribbles in my daily life, when I don't quite complete my list, the ultimate planner has it all under control. There is nothing out of control in God's hands. I am exactly where I am supposed to be, doing exactly what I am supposed to be doing.

Hallelujah.

I Fought the Law & the Law....Won?

No, no, no...I'm not in any legal trouble. The truth is, I feel like I've been surrounded by discussions of the law lately. Not criminals per say but the law itself, and let me say... it's exhausting.

A typical day in our house goes like this:
I wake up and pack PT a lunch for his full day of classes and I go to work. When I get home in the afternoon I can usually find my hubby holed away in his office listening to a lecture while working on an outline and eating a snack (he is a far, far better multi-tasker than I). After I go to the gym, he is usually in the same room although now he may have moved to the day bed with his laptop propped on a pillow and a book open on the bed. I make dinner and PT comes out of his cave famished, which is the best way to eat my cooking and we eat together. We talk about our days and then we occasionally watch something on our DVR until he heads back to the cave again. I get ready for bed, he tucks me in, tells me goodnight and goes back to study for a few more hours until I feel his arms reach for me mid-slumber and I know in that moment, nothing could be better.

I have watched in amazement as PT has studied, read, complained, persevered through and ultimately dominated his first year of law school. Today PT's brother-in-law is taking the dreaded Bar Exam. (prayers are appreciated!) I lack the diligence and self motivation that it would take to tackle this endeavor of becoming an attorney but I can't help but look on these men in my life with awe! FIRST you have to study for the LSAT (yuck) THEN you have to put up with 3 years of law school, that's right, 3 whole years of studying and memorizing and reading and writing and learning all these facts, rules and well, laws. AND THHHEEENN you have to buckle down and study some more for the Bar Exam, which by the way is unlike any other test you will ever take (so I hear). ANYWAY, this rant is not to talk about how crazy these smarty pant people are. Although...I'm not discounting that finding by any means. But this post is to show my appreciation for the hard work that these peeps put in.

PT does ALL of this, and still finds time to stop and get flowers for me, or surprise me with some Swedish Fish. He even plans weekends so that we can spend time together outside of his cave. I am so proud of PT. And I am so thankful that he is mine.

To think that a little over a year ago, I'd never give a second thought to these things but after watching my husband work so dang hard I thought it only seemed appropriate to bestow some praises.

Weekend Wrap Up

FRIDAY: I headed off to my parent's house on Friday afternoon and was welcomed by a nasty rainstorm. After contemplating a nap my mom convinced me to run some errands with her. One of them including a trip to Old Time Pottery, this crazy cheap home store that is stocked with necessities (my version of necessities anyway). After our long trip there I decided I would wrestle with the kitchen in order to prepare a meal for my family. We went to Publix and got the groceries and home we went.
I actually made it through the entire meal making process without setting fire to anything (Success!) My family "ooed" and "ahhed" over the meatloaf and mashed potatoes that I made, I never reject encouragement, even if it's forced. We spent the rest of the night making fun of one another while playing Trivial Pursuit...Junior and Scrabble. PT won both games, I suspect cheating.

SATURDAY: PT & I slept in & woke up with french toast and errands to run. We raced all over town, peeked into a couple stores and pretended we needed to buy things and even stopped in at Planet Smoothie (ahh, nostalgia) and got ourselves a jumbo blend of fruits. We returned home to my parents just in time for PT and my brother to spend a day playing video games while I chatted with my mom. We went to Acropolis for dinner, a Greek cuisine and explosion of goodness for your taste buds. We left with full stomachs and napkin traces in our hair. That night we got dressed up and went to a friend's engagement party. I love engagements and I love parties. We laughed a lot and then went home where I coerced PT into watching PS. I love you.

SUNDAY: Sunday I woke up to PT tickling me until I was screaming something about hurting him very badly in the near future. I say a lot of things I don't mean when cornered into a laughing fit that is anything but funny. We went to church and got subs for lunch. PT and my brother played some more video games and I caught up on some reality television before heading back to our summer residence at the Bettelli's.

Weekend Rating: What's not to love?

Lunch Date

Me: "George, do you want to go on a date?"
George: " YES! Let's go to McDonalds!"

Thus began the excitement for my four year old nephew and my lunch date.

It was a great day, we got to sit down inside of McDonalds. We got a chocolate milkshake, nuggets, fries and a sweet Star Wars toy. We discussed the unfortunate life of the Coyote, as he chases the Roadrunner around all his days and only ends up with scrapes and bruises (he only gets band-aids, never goes to the hospital). We dissected the lyrics of Miley Cyrus' "Party in the U.S.A" and came to the conclusion that she was probably celebrating her birthday party, and wanted everyone to come. We talked about how much longer PT and I would be living in his house (I'm hoping this was because he likes having us, and not because he's over his house guests). As our date came to an end, I told him I hoped he'd come visit us in Tallahassee.

George: "Does Tallahassee have a Chuck E Cheese's?"
Me: "Sure does."
George: "Ok, then I can come visit you in Tallahassee."

I absolutely love my sister-in-law, and her offspring is just one of those reasons, i.e My favorite four year old on the planet.

Running

I am not one of those people that loves to exercise. I do not wake up every day with excitement for hitting the gym. I, unlike some, loathe working out. It is a constant battle within myself and every day I have to talk myself out of sitting on the couch with a large bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch and watching Say Yes to the Dress and instead- going for a lengthy, hot, sweaty, torturous run. Sounds awful doesn't it?

However, I do it. I may hate it, I may whine, I may argue with myself and ask scream at myself "Why? Why? Why?"as I'm trucking through another mile BUT I'm doing it. Nothing beats the feeling of accomplishment as I round my last stretch knowing that I have not wasted the day. I feel empowered. Although I may be tired, I feel strong. Running becomes a peaceful time where I can think and clear my mind and get away from all the commotion of the day. I don't love to run, but I love the feeling I get knowing that I did. Knowing that I exceeded my own expectations, knowing that I went that extra mile even with all the doubt in my mind. Each run I start by asking myself, "Am I going to be a wimp? or Am I going to be a champ?" Somedays I am a wimp (when the cereal is much to appetizing and Say Yes to the Dress is having a marathon), but nothing beats those days of feeling like a champ.

Weekend Wrap Up

FRIDAY-We left at 8 o'clock, er, we were SUPPOSED to leave at 8 o'clock to head to St. Augustine but I was running late...as usual. When we finally hit the road we made it to St. Augustine without so much as a hitch. "The Boys" had a tee time for 2PM and when we arrived at noon there were black clouds (Oh, lovely). We had lunch and the boys left.

Meanwhile- I had orchestrated this awesome surprise for my man, where I planned out this whole ordeal involving a brand spanking new golf club that PT had been talking about for months, a huge red bow and a nice little anniversary present secretly placed in his golf bag (with the help of my little brother).

As you can imagine I wanted video, photos and mad texts about PT's awesome surprise that I was sure he would LOVE. I was gloating just thinking about my best wife ever award! Weeeelll, after many texts back and forth with PT and my brother--no super surprise, no golf, they'd been rained out and were coming back home without PT ever opening his bag. BUMMER! I had to bite my tongue in order to keep myself from shouting, "GO OPEN YOUR GOLF BAG AND HAND ME MY AWARD",when the guys returned.

The rest of the night we enjoyed warm weather, good food, and nice company.

SATURDAY- The boys left for their scheduled tee time and I again awaited anxiously for the word that PT had received his surprise. Weeeellll, after no word I checked my phone and it was DEAD! (ugh, technology) so I had no way of knowing what had happened. I had told my brother earlier to try and get video of the grand opening so I was just counting on that. A couple hours later after my phone charged I had some sweet texts from my happy husband who was quite surprised... mission accomplished:)

When the boys got back my brother showed me the video. It started with my brother saying.."Ok, go..." and Peter doing a not so great job of pretending to open his bag for the first time and see his club. My brother missed getting video of the actual opening so I all I had was the re-enactment to laugh about (boys..). All in all, it was a wonderful surprise, even if I didn't see it. PT was so happy, mission accomplished. && Thanks to my little bro, for helping me pull the whole thing off.

The rest of the evening was spent laughing. a LOT.

SUNDAY- OH the dreaded vacation end. We ate a marvelous brunch, laid by the pool, packed up & shipped out. PT & I drove back to his sister's house, had dinner and laughed some more.

Weekend Rating: Pretty Awesome.

Three Hundred and Sixty Five Days.

"I loved you from the moment I laid eyes on you, what would be more reasonable than to marry you?"

Three Hundred and Sixty Five days ago I woke up and felt like I was dreaming. I slept in a king size bed at the Hilton and when I awoke the next morning the room seemed to have a glow. Hanging on the floor size mirror on the wall was my wedding gown. Radiant and white and so perfect I didn't want to touch it. As my eyes moved from the dress I would wear as I became PT's wife, there was a knock on the door. Immediately I was overcome with the realness of this day, this was not a dream. This was the day I had been waiting for since I saw Cinderella. This was the day that I would marry my best friend, today he would be mine forever and as that realization came over me I stood to answer the door.

It was my maid and  matron of honor. Sarah was holding a bag full of bobby pins, and tissues while Jenny had foundation applicators and a lighter for our unity candle (another story for another time). We talked about the day and how I had slept as we ate breakfast.

After we ate the hours before the ceremony are blurbs of people rushing in and out of the hotel room, the brunch with my bridesmaids, my mother, grandmothers and all the special women in my life, videographer, photographer, hair, make up, and so on all morph together in those hours of preparing to walk down that aisle. We laughed and talked and prayed and spent the afternoon anticipating the moment we'd been talking about for the past 13 months.

Much of that day was a blur, an exciting and emotional blur of time that runs together in my mind with smiles and laughter and love and joy but I remember one moment very clearly. As my father took my arm and the church doors opened I remember PT's face. I remember looking straight into his eyes unaware of the people around, the beautiful church, or the long walk that was taking place. I wanted nothing but PT. I remember thinking this is it. This is the moment that I will marry the man God planned for me. I smiled and could not get to him soon enough.

We said our vows, we kissed, and we were pronounced "Mr. and Mrs. Peter Tragos".

Three Hundred and Sixty Five days ago I got to meet the man of my dreams at the end of the aisle and begin a life with him. This past year has been full of new adventures but one thing has stayed exactly the same as the day I married PT. I want nothing but him. On that day nothing else mattered but my husband and I feel the same today. We can be anywhere, doing anything and as long as he is by my side, I am content. He is my best friend, and the love of my life.

Three Hundred and Sixty Five Days ago I made the best decision of my life.

Can I get a Woop Woop?

Baggage

So I have a big purse suitcase that I carry everywhere with me. Many, and by many I mean everyone that has ever laid eyes on it has asked me "why, oh why do you carry such a large bag?"Well this is what I tell them- if it's not already in here, I will not have it. I am what some would refer to as "scatterbrained". I forget EVERYTHING and I almost always find myself wishing I had brought something that I didn't. Solution: HUGE bag with everything already in it. Foolproof! On any regular day this is what you will find in my excuse for weightlifting of a "purse".

-keys
-cell phone
-chapstick (at least 2)
-sunglasses (brown & black pair)
-umbrella (think sunny but prepare for rain)
-wallet (duh)
-wristlets (brown & black)
-tissues
-hand sanitizer
-agenda planner
-mini Bible
-glasses
-gum
-tylenol
-hair tye/bobby pins
*this is not to exclude the occasional pair of shoes, various electronic chargers, novel(s), cards, or anything else I may need for the day that would otherwise be forgotten.

What do you not leave home without?

Friday Favorites

T.G.I.F.

Fridays are so different for me in the summer. Allllll during the school year I am counting the days until that beautiful Friday morning, and each Friday is a celebration in itself- a little party wrapped up in endless possibilities for the weekend. But in the summer I have a hard time even keeping track of what day it is. While it is a marvelous perk that teachers get a whole two months off in the summer, I do miss my Friday celebrations. Although I don't wake up dancing on Fridays in the summer I'd still like to show my appreciation for this day of the week with my Friday Favorites:

Favorite Words of Wisdom:

Favorite Weekend Activity:
just do it

Favorite Weekend Outfit:

Favorite Weekend Snack:

20 Things

In light of our upcoming 1 Year anniversary I thought I would share some facts about PT & I:)

1. We LOVE to eat, we both get really excited about going out to dinner (PT likes the meal, I get giddy over dessert).

2. We like to shop, it doesn't matter where we are we can both find something that we have to buy.

3. We both talk a LOT, and we are both LOUD.

4. PT is competitive. I am not. PT begins trash talking, I become competitive.

5. PT tucks me in to bed every night. Usually without my yelling, "Peeterrrr come tuck me in" from the bedroom.

6. I always lose things and PT always finds them.

7. PT has sat in the passenger seat maybe five times in the 3 years that we've been together. I am not a good driver.

8. Our shared love for reality television bonds us.

9. We fell in love while making smoothies in college. Blended fruit beverages will always hold a special place in our hearts.

10. We're always laughing, usually at each other.

11. I am older than PT. by 3 weeks & 6 days.

12. PT likes to tickle me until I'm lying about something hurting or trying to cause physical harm to him.

13. If self restraint did not exist, we would both eat fast food every day.

14. PT refuses to admit that I am athletic. I've beat him bowling, once.

15. We go through ketchup bottles like it's our job.

16. We love the Noles.

17. PT & I have more fun searching through movies on Netfliix and laughing at what they are about than we do actually picking a movie and watching it.

18. We eat dinner on our coffee table.

19. PT once sent me on a scavenger hunt with clues and a rose at each spot and I ended up on his family's dock where he was waiting for me with the last rose and a proposal! (bestdayofmylife.com)

20. We are totally BFFs.

Grow Up?

So it started at a PJ themed party that I attended with my sister-in-law and mother-in-law. We had a great time and while we were there we crafted these cute little baskets. Anyhoo in the next day or so PT and I are getting ready to head over to my mom and dad's house to visit with them. As I begin packing up my things for the visit, I grab my crafty little basket that I am oh so proud of.

Peter: "What are you bringing that for?"
Me: "I want to show it to my mom"
Peter: (Hysterical Laughter) "Whit, you are a five year old!"
Me: "I just want to show her what I did" (knowing that in fact, i am a five year old)

I did in fact bring my basket and show my mother and she undoubtedly gave me the satisfaction of loving my basket as she would have if I were five and probably would have hung it on our refrigerator had it been hangable.

I say all of this because I realized nothing has really changed. I am a child at heart and I like it. And although PT laughs at me and makes fun, I know he likes it too. I never grew out of the princess, tea party, cupcake stage of life--and I hope I never do. I teach children daily and I LOVE their outlook on life. They are excited about everything and have so much hope and more so faith. I think we should all channel our inner child every now and then and make this world a happier place. I will promise you this, bring me ANY crafty work of yours and I will gush about it and tell you how wonderful you are as I look at it. We encourage children this way and I can vouch for adults when I say we need some encouragement every now and then too.

So thanks Mom. I will continue to embrace my child like tendencies.
